Firefighter Jack Morrison (Joaquin Phoenix) is a hero, but risking his life to save others has not come without a price: the strain on his marriage, the holidays spent away from his children, the emotional isolation of a man who has witnessed the unspeakable. While courageously saving a man’s life in a treacherous warehouse fire, Jack gets trapped inside the raging inferno. Outside, his fellow firefighters, led by Fire Chief Mike Kennedy (John Travolta), struggle desperately to contain the unruly blaze and rescue him. Inside, Jack pushes his firefighting skills to the limit, searching tirelessly for an escape route, as memories from his life wash over him; the first time he met his wife, his relationship with his kids, his friends who have died, above all else, what it means to him to be a firefighter.
